THE STORY BEHIND PET ALERT AND IT'S SIGNIFICANCE FOR PET SAFETY

Even though my neighbor had posted the window stickers "In case of Fire- PLEASE SAVE MY PET", her dog died of smoke inhalation during her house fire in 1990.  Because of this I then became concerned for my own pets safety, since I was using the same type of window stickers.  I then asked my local Fire Chief why they didn't save my neighbors dog using the window stickers. The Fire Chief’s reply was: "Those window stickers DON’T give us any information, and we don't know how long the sticker has been there or if the information is current.  OLD information or incorrect information can cause a risk of injury for the firefighters and lost time in their rescue efforts.”   Soon after learning about this, I began the task of designing a system that all emergency personnel and animal control could use that would contain all the information needed to HELP them in several different types of emergency situations involving pets. After many months of testing, gathering information, and with the guidance of Firefighters, Police, Canine Officers, Highway Patrol, Animal Control Officers and Veterinarians, the PET ALERT EMERGENCY INFORMATION SYSTEM (kit) was completed and approved.  PET ALERT was also announced to be "the pet emergency informational TOOL for firefighters" by the International Fire Chiefs Association in 1991and we are very proud of it's recognition. My only hope is that pet owners themselves realize the need and the concerns to be "pet alert" and use this unique system to help give their pets a lifeline to safety during all type of emergencies.

Sincerely,

Cameron R. White
